Leishmaniosis, careful with the mosquitoes!
On warm summer evenings and humid areas, mosquitoes are often seen. More and more dogs suffer leishmaniosis, a very serious disease that is transmitted by the bite of the sand fly. Between May and September and even until October you should be extremely careful in warm countries.
It is recommended to get your dog a specific dog collar against bugs or apply a pipette, it is important that these products act against mosquitoes.
Protect your dog in addition with natural remedies like citronella
Take a small spray bottle, fill it with water and put a few drops of the citronella oil in it. Evenings when you walk your dog or stay with him in the garden, take the citronella and spray it all over you dog’s body, avoiding the facial areas. Citronella helps not only against mosquitoes but also against other pests, such as ticks.
Another tip
End of October you should go with your dog to the vet and perform a test for leishmaniosis, to make sure that the dog is not infected. The sooner you know, the better the disease can be treated!
